The technology sector is a driving force in our world today and a variety of firms compete for market share and the consumer’s share of wallet. Having started in 1984, Dell is one of the pioneers in computer technology sales and development. When it entered the market, it offered an innovative approach to consumers whereby they could customize their computer system to meet their unique computing needs.

Dell, Inc is based in Texas in the United States (US) and has grown to open up offices across the globe. When it was founded by Michael Dell it focused its operation on the development, sales and support of its own products and services.

As it has expanded over the years, it has acquired a number of other capabilities to offer customers data storage solutions, software and even cameras. This continuous commitment to product and geographical expansion has been at the heart of the company since it started in the 1980s.

In its core personal computers (PC) business, it has managed to become one of the five largest PC makers in the world, sharing the same company as Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Apple.

Despite existing in a fiercely competitive market, the firm has always tried to innovate not only in the products it offers to customers but in its processes. They were one of the first manufacturing companies in the PC market to sell products directly through their website in 1996. This approach was a major shift away from traditional selling strategies in this market and helped gain the company attention in both the media and with consumers.

Even after Michael resigned from the company as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2004, this commitment to constant innovation has stayed as a driving force of the organization. His replacement, Kevin Rollins, decided to change a number of processes through altering the firm’s existing relationships with Intel and Microsoft as well as engaging in some strategic acquisitions.

From a binary options trading perspective, the company is listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange under the ticker DELL. Due to its importance to the US economy, it is a component of both the NASDAQ 100 and S&P 500 market indices. From an international perspective, it also has a secondary listing on the Hang Seng Exchange in Hong Kong.

Throughout the course of its history, the company’s innovative approach to business has proven successful in some instances while challenging at others. However, this firm has always managed to realign its efforts to regain confidence with customers, satisfy its stakeholders and develop new products for global PC customers to enjoy.
